Bachelor of Social WorkCourse Code K41 Are equity, independence, human rights and empowerment more than just ideals to you? Do you want to pursue a meaningful career in regional Australia? If so, consider Social Work. As a Social Worker, you will work for positive change with families, groups and communities. It’s a chance for you to make a difference to people’s lives. ECU is the only tertiary institution in Western Australia to offer a Social Work program specifically aimed at rural, regional and remote practice. As a result, graduates of the program are highly sought by social work agencies throughout Australia and overseas. The Social Work program at ECU is accredited by the AASW, so qualifications from this program will be internationally recognised. Graduates from this program also have internationally recognised counseling qualifications. One cannot work as a Social Worker unless one has completed an accredited Bachelor of Social Work degree.
The Bachelor of Social Work provides a professional education in the field of social work such that its graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Graduates are expected to develop skills in generic social work practice, as well as specialist skills to practise in regional, rural and remote social work practice settings. The curriculum is designed to develop social workers who are able to understand and meet the Practice Standards for Social Workers (AASW, 2003). The program develops students’ ability to work within a complex yet rewarding social work practice environment by developing students’ professional helping competencies. Students undertake studies in social work theory, professional intervention, research, politics, policy, helping, and ethics, with particular reference to the relevance of this knowledge to practice in regional, rural and remote settings.
